Do you paint it on, let it dry and then heat it up until it melts?
Answer: Let dry, change color at temperature. -

Is there a special type of thinner needed?
Answer: Tempilaq comes ready to use right out of the bottle. I believe the manufacturer does make a thinner if yours gets too thick over time. -

The picture shows the temperature indicating fluid and thinner. does this product come with a bottle of thinner?
Answer: The product that I purchased was a single bottle product. I would have had to purchase thinner separately. This appears that it would not include the thinner. -
Question:
Does this product work in high vacuum environments?
Answer: This stuff dries as a solid material. The solids are guaranteed to melt when it exceeds a specified temperature. So, as an indicator, it will do the job under vacuum. However, I have no idea what this stuff will melt into. The resulting vapors that it gives off, due to melting, may not be so good for your vacuum pumps or chamber. I think you may be better off measuring the temperature inside your vacuum chamber, than using this stuff.
